Yes Halo 3 is over-rated, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game.Personally I think its a great game, but I'm online everyday.So I'll review Halo 3.
Campaign
4 is better than 2, thats what the guys at Bungie know, because in Campaign thats how it is. Unlike the previous games, you won't play as two 'chiefs, but instead first player gets to play as the 'chief and second player is the Arbitor; the other players are two new elites. Vehicles are now a major part in later missions, 'hogs, mongooses, ghosts, scorpions, wraiths, choppers, hornets, and banshees. Legendary ending is great, but I won't spoil it for you.
Multiplayer
If you want to get "pwned" by a 13 year-old then Xbox Live is for you, it's still fun if you don't. The worse part of it is that if you want to play team snipers, you have to play it on social slayer and hope for it. Oh and now you have the sniper rifle and a shotgun, instead of beam rifle. You had to get lucky in Halo 2 to win a duel with swords, now it actually takes skill. If two players come attacking each other with the sword they will bounce back and retry until someone is dead, you have to keep the courser on the enemy and keep swinging that sword, you have to have good coordination and fast reflexes to win. And now you could change the armor if you dont like the standard MJOLNIR armor.
